Blogs vs Wiki

Blog and Wiki are both fairly new technologies that can be used many different ways in our daily life. The two can be used for both personal and professional uses. Nowadays, we can find companies setting up blogs to feed the public with new information or, to promote their new products.  On the other hand, we can find a set of friends using a wiki to get ready for a camping trip.
Wikipedia’s founder, Jimmy Wales, state that wiki can be used for “any sort of knowledge sharing that is enhanced by open, flexible, rapid collaboration, particularly in contexts where people are separated geographically and relationship-building is important”( Gardiner Morse, hbr.org). Basically, wikis are used to bring people together to add, edit, link information. Although, Wiki can be used for the general public, it is widely used in private setting, where individuals truth each other with the open information. Wikis can be used to make the lives of employees that are grouped together for projects more convenient.  A wiki will give the team easy and fast access to the raw data that is stored on the wiki. Throughout the project the team can share information, brainstorm and watch the flow of the group.  Wiki can be dangerous, it gives users the ability to edit any page. Therefore, if someone has a negative purpose they can cause a lot of damage to a group.
In the future, I believe that wikis will be set up in the form of social network,  where people can put a topic up and other user help solve the problem. In addition, schools might set up a wiki to teach student or assign group work from home.  The idea is endless just have to wait to see what people will do with it next.
Blogs are websites set up by users to share their options on whatever. Blogs are more personal, because it deals with a person feelings and emotions. In an article Stung by the Perfect Sting by Maureen Dowd, she describes blogs as an infinite realm of truth-telling”.  In other words, blogs are similar to an open dairy, where a person can express his/her thoughts. Nevertheless, it can be professional because more and more companies are getting into blogs to explain their new technology and to try to get on a more personal level with their customers.

"Old Media" You are the mother of "New Media"

Old Media is any form of media/communication that has been outdated by a newer technology. Books, newspapers and TV are all old media. On the other hand, new media is the modern version of old media. New media is like a chameleon, it’s always changing. A good example would be from Randall Stross’s “Why television still shines in a world of screens”, where he explains how “TVs have evolved into videos and other media” to keep its properties relevant and profitable. He used Hulu to illustrate how the networks are moving the TV shows online, so the customers can get access at any time. This movement is very similar to Tom Lowry’s “Turner’s secret web weapon”, in which Turner Broadcasting System try to trap customers between TV and online, to bring in more money from ads. Turner system use advance computer programs to input addition feature like viewing inside of the driver’s car, to draw more customers to nascar.com.
New media and old media are building blocks, where new media represents the new surface on top. Clive Thompson’s “How YouTube Changes the Way We Think”, enlightens how Apple's WYSIWYG interface gave way to cut and paste, which is now used in almost every software, such as, flickr, twitter, blogs, music and photo editors. Another way of looking at Clive Thompson example of word processing would be the history of telecommunication technology; first it was the telegraph, telephone, cellphone, video calling (Skype). New media keep on improving and adding additional feature to make our life’s simpler and easier
